Today, many private individuals present themselves as professional dealers through social media and online platforms, even though they operate privately.

In many countries, including the Netherlands, purchasing from a private individual offers little to no legal protection if the watch turns out not to be what it was claimed to be. When buying from a registered company, you benefit from consumer protection, warranty options, professional after-sales support, and a clear point of contact for service or repairs.

Correct maintenance on watches from brands such as Cartier, Patek Philippe or Rolex is costly and time-consuming. Unfortunately, many sellers avoid this expense. A watch may show acceptable results on a timing machine, but that alone does not mean it has been properly serviced. In many cases, an overdue service becomes the responsibility of the new owner shortly after purchase.
