During the 1960s and 1970s, Zodiac, alongside brands such as Breitling, Clebar and Heuer, produced chronographs with strong, purposeful designs. Their 'Panda' and 'Reverse Panda' executions have become particularly sought after.

Often referred to as “poor man’s Heuers” due to their resemblance to the Heuer Carrera, these Zodiac watches have long been appreciated by (chronograph) collectors. The nickname, however, understates their quality, as these are very well-executed chronographs with a distinct identity of their own.

The dial is where this watch truly distinguishes itself. Executed in a soft off-white tone, it features a beautifully balanced reverse panda layout, complemented by a tachymeter scale along the outer edge in a subtle light blue. This detail adds a layer of refinement and pairs well with the warm, naturally aged tritium, resulting in a dial that feels both vibrant and harmonious.

Housed in a 36mm stainless steel case, the watch wears comfortably by modern standards, offering a balanced and versatile presence on the wrist.

The dial itself remains in good, honest condition. The light blue tachymeter scale along the outer edge is well preserved and free from any signs of damage or moisture intrusion, an important detail for a watch of this age.

The remainder of the dial, including the sub-dials, is clean, showing only minimal marks consistent with careful ageing. Of particular note is the small “T” signature within the lower sub-dial, indicating the use of tritium as the luminous material, a subtle detail that further underlines the watch’s originality and period correctness, and one that collectors continue to value today.
