Introduced in 2008, the Ref. 5124G-001 was produced for only a relatively short period before making way for the blue-dial 5124G-011 in 2015. Today, the salmon-dial 5124G-001 is particularly sought after for its warm, distinctive dial and classic Art Deco-inspired proportions.


The Patek Philippe Gondolo has a history that reaches back well beyond Patek's modern collection. The name was inspired by Gondolo & Labouriau, the renowned Brazilian retailer with which Patek Philippe developed a successful partnership in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. More than a century later, Patek Philippe revived the spirit of these distinctive watches with the modern Gondolo collection, introducing the Ref. 5124 in 2008. Its elongated, stepped case and architectural lines draw heavily on the Art Deco aesthetic, while its proportions and curved profile allow the watch to sit surprisingly comfortably on the wrist.

This example, the Ref. 5124G-001, is crafted in 18k white gold and features the highly distinctive salmon-coloured dial associated with this particular reference. Produced for a relatively short period from 2008 until 2014, before the introduction of the blue-dial 5124G-011, the salmon-dial version has become an increasingly interesting configuration for collectors.


The dial of this example is particularly attractive. Its pure salmon colour has retained its original warmth and evenness, without the noticeable UV-related discolouration sometimes encountered on other examples of the Ref. 5124.

The watch is further distinguished by its sigma signature at the bottom of the dial featuring applied white gold numerals, accompanied by matching white gold hands.


This is an interesting and relatively uncommon dial execution, as most 5124G examples encountered today feature dark, oxidized numerals. The contrasting white gold numerals and hands therefore add another subtle yet distinctive layer of appeal to an already exceptional reference.



While different dial configurations are known within the 5124G-001, the sigma signature and white gold details are elements that should not be overlooked.

Adding an extra element of versatility, this Gondolo comes with three different styles of hand-buffed Pamplona leather straps, each made to complement the watch in its own way. Few things change the personality of a watch as effortlessly as a different strap, allowing this Patek Philippe to move from understated and classic to more contemporary or relaxed simply by changing the colour and texture of the leather.


The combination of its sculptural white gold case, exceptionally attractive pure salmon dial, uncommon sigma configuration, beautifully executed rectangular movement and three interchangeable straps makes this Ref. 5124G-001 a particularly distinctive interpretation of the Gondolo. A refined and unconventional Patek Philippe that rewards a closer look, both for its design and for the details that set this particular example apart.
