Omega Speedmaster Bi-Color Moonwatch

This neo-vintage Omega Speedmaster Bi-Color Moonwatch, reference DD145.0022, is a timepiece manufactured from stainless steel and 14k yellow gold, with a stunning golden dial and silver/gray subdials. Originally this model was fitted to a gold and steel 1171 bracelet, but unfortunately that bracelet did not survive the 38 years of the previous owner’s daily wear, and so we fitted the watch to one of our Nubuck leather straps. This Speedmaster was in production from the start of ca. 1983 up until 1986 and is as good as a component of the renowned Speedmaster line as any other Moonwatch (and probably one of the more rare ones!) As you may know, the Speedmaster is well-known for being linked to space travel and serving as the first timepiece to be worn on the moon.

The reference DD145.0022 is a Speedmaster Professional variation with a stainless steel case and a 14k yellow golden bezel. It boasts a 42mm case diameter and is driven by the Omega Caliber 861 manual-winding movement (which is based on the legendary Lemania 1873 movement of course). This reference isn’t a limited or numbered edition, however no one exactly knows how many of these watches were manufactured during the circa three years of production, but given the scarce availability of these models, we guess production was fairly low at the time. The thing that makes this watch special and super attractive to us, is that amazing matte gold dial with its silver subdials for the chronograph complication. That, and the golden bezel with its golden numerals (Dot close to 70 insert) It just gives this Speedmaster a completely different vibe from all those other Speedies out there. Another interesting fact is that this neo-vintage Speedmaster was originally purchased by a Dutch CEO of a Jaguar and Daimler dealership in Friesland; after years of wearing and enjoying his watch, he was shown an Omega Speedmaster with a sapphire case-back and wanted the same for his own Speedmaster (this DD145.0022 offered here) Say no more his trusted AD said, and proceeded to switch the stainless steel caseback of his Speedmaster to the sapphire one you see in the photo’s above, literally creating a ‘one of one’ DD145.0022 Speedmaster. This was nothing too shocking back in the 1990’s, today we may think different about switching a caseback, however you have to admit that it ‘s a damn good look on this 1980’s Speedy.

This neo-vintage Omega Speedmaster Bi-Color Moonwatch received a full service of its chronograph movement, and a polish of the original Hesalite crystal – we left the stainless steel case and 14k golden bezel unpolished. This Speedy will once again be offered with our extensive two year warranty.
