Alaska Speedmaster Collectors set
This Omega Speedmaster Professional Limited Series, commonly referred to as the Alaska, is a highly sought-after timepiece in the world of watch collecting. This particular watch is one of only 1,970 pieces ever made, making it a valuable acquisition for both fans and collectors. What distinguishes this model from other Speedmaster models is (obviously) not only its looks, limited availability and totality, but also its all-over excellent condition.
The Alaska Speedmaster derives its name from the unique connection it shares with NASA’s Apollo space missions. In the late 1960s, Omega collaborated with NASA to develop a timepiece that could withstand the extreme temperatures and harsh conditions of space travel. This collaboration resulted in the creation of the “Alaska Project,” an experimental timepiece designed for use in space. The Alaska Speedmaster was developed specifically with space exploration in mind, featuring a distinctive white dial and large black hands and indices. The purpose of this design was to enhance readability in the bright sunlight and zero-gravity environments encountered during space missions. The watch also featured a red anodized aluminum outer case, the so called “Heat Shield” which provided additional protection against extreme temperatures. Although the original Alaska Project Speedmaster from the late 1960’s was never launched into space, the watchmaking industry held its design and technical advancements in high regard. Years later Omega made the decision to release the (modern) Alaska Speedmaster available to the general public in a limited quantity. Although with certain changes from the original, this limited edition honored the original prototype and had characteristics that made it a highly prized timepiece among Speedmaster collectors and aficionados.
This Alaska Speedmaster Limited Series as presented here is available as a (over)complete collectors set, including two unworn, white Alaska velcro straps and the watch’s original, and unworn stainless steel bracelet. There’s also a third, white Alaska velcro strap attached to the watch, but this one is obviously worn. At WWH we also carry a wonderful collection of straps that are perfectly suited for this iconic timepiece. We understand that watch enthusiasts appreciate the ability to personalize and enhance their watches, and that’s why we have curated a selection of high-quality straps, just for this Speedmaster. Further more the watch is accompanied by all the warranty cards, limited series card, limited series booklet, manual booklet, the “Heat Shield” and the accompanying red anodized aluminum Omega set of tools, original hangtag, boxes and service papers, including parts replaced during service.
This Alaska Speedmaster received a full service of its chronograph movement, and a quick polish of the original Hesalite crystal – we left the entire case and case-back unpolished! She will once again be offered with our extensive two year warranty.
