1675 GMT Ghost Bezel
The Rolex GMT-Master, reference 1675 was designed in 1954 at the request of Pan Am Airways to offer pilots with a dual time watch, and it has since become a symbol of refinement, coolness, and dependability. The watch flawlessly combines functionality and elegance, with a fourth, 24-hour hand that enables for time tracking in a second time zone. This particular example of the 1675 features an impressive two-tone Ghost bezel and a black dial which is slowly turning brown. All in all a very impressive vintage GMT, worn on our handmade, chocolate colored, WatchWorks branded, vintage alligator leather strap.
The realm of horology is filled with timeless classics, yet few timepieces have carved out a niche as distinct as the reference 1675. The defining characteristic of this particular model, the 1675/3 GMT-Master offered here, is undoubtedly its bezel (the digits /3 in the reference stands for a two-tone, yellow gold and steel variant of this model). The 40mm case made from stainless steel, is adorned with an 18k yellow gold rotatable bezel, fitted with a naturally ‘Ghost’ faded ‘fat font’ bezel insert, which originally began its life as brown and gold, but has gracefully matured into a captivating soft honey color and something that is best described as light-brown-pink. This unique fade lends the watch an extra air of vintage allure that sets it apart in the world of the many 1675 GMT’s out there. But it doesn’t end there; the black glossy dial with its golden ‘nipple’s’ features an aged varnish which causes a color-changing on the dial. Although it is not evident in the photos above, when sunlight hits this dial, taupe and brown tones begin to develop, making this already alluring vintage GMT even more attractive! Add the cool ‘lightning’ patina which has developed around all of the hour-markers throughout the years, and you’ve got yourself one hell of a stunning vintage GMT which will never bore, and will be a conversation starter par excellence!
