1601 ‘Charcoal’ Datejust

Now here’s a vintage Rolex Datejust with a pie-pan dial that will make your jaws drop, especially when it’s worn outside in the sun. Please believe me when I tell you that this dial is ten times better in real life than in any of the photo’s above. It features the most wonderful, matte and grainy looking ‘Charcoal’ coloured dial which constantly switches between its colour-tones. As always, capturing the correct colour on a vintage dial through the camera’s lens is quit the challenge, especially using studio lighting, but this truly is a special and rare dial, combined in a 1601 Datejust package.

As mentioned, the dial color is best described as Charcoal, but from a sharp angle the dial appears black and when worn out in the sun, this charcoal dial is dead-on Anthracite with hints of Taupe. The entire dial remains in spotless and excellent condition with all Tritium dots present which have turned to an attractive yellow tone. The case also remains in great condition with four solid and thick lugs and a well shaped 18k white gold fluted bezel. The steel bracelet on this ‘Charcoal’ Datejust is the original 6251 folded jubilee bracelet with 55 end-links – This original 1972 bracelet features the wonderful, rare and much sought after, Big Logo clasp and is a bracelet with little stretch. All things considered, this is a pretty uncommon and rare dialed vintage Rolex Datejust, and it’s certainly a watch you do not want to miss.
