“Charcoal” Datejust 1601

Now here’s a vintage Datejust with a dial that is just sensational, please believe me when I say that this dial is even better in real life than in any of the photo’s. It shows a wonderful, matte Charcoal appearance with ten, 18k white golden indices of which there are two (the six and nine position) that show almost triple the width of the other hour-markers. All three of the hands are also manufactured from 18k white gold. This isn’t your average grey dial, it looks like a black dial which slowly washed out its colour over the past 50 years and developed a Charcoal hue with believe it or not, hints of taupe when worn in sunlight. As always, capturing the correct colour on a dial through the camera’s lens is quit the challenge, especially using studio lighting, that’s why more grey can be seen in the photo’s above. However, please don’t hesitate to stop by to have a look at this beauty with your own two eyes, I’m sure you will be pleasantly surprised.

As mentioned, the dial colour is best described as Charcoal, but from a sharp angle the dial appears black and when worn out in the sun, this charcoal dial is showing hints of Anthracite and even Taupe. The entire dial remains in excellent condition with all Tritium dots present which have turned to an attractive eggshell colour, with the Tritium inside the hands to match. Also, the original date-wheel features the cool ‘Hooked 7’ numeral which automatically means that all the 6 and 9 numerals are ‘closed’. The case also remains in a wonderful condition with four solid and thick lugs and a sharp 18k white gold fluted bezel. The steel bracelet on this 1601 ‘Charcoal’ Datejust is the original, 62510H solid jubilee bracelet with 555 end-links – This original 1976 bracelet features an Oyster clasp with still a clear and sharp Rolex coronet. All things considered this truly is a marvelous vintage Rolex Datejust and one you do not want to miss, especially if you’re turning 50 this year, b’day watch anyone?
