18238 Day-Date Dutch Days
It has been a while since we encountered such an extremely full set Rolex Day-Date, usually something is missing or added later at some point in time, however not with this one. This particular 18238 Day-Date comes with its outer and inner boxes, punched warranty, including the narrow green strip on the top right side of the warranty (which is usually missing) with again the reference number and unique serial to the watch. Also, the Day-Date and ‘Your Rolex Oyster’ booklets, calendar, hangtag, brown leather wallet, the Rolex handkerchief, the brown leather Rolex journal with white Rolex pages and course a spare bundle of more white Rolex pages, to exchange your first one, once fully used. Oh and spare links to the President bracelet as well as the little green service booklet – A proper and all original full set.
As you can see this Day-Date from 1990 features a stellar gold Tapestry dial and a rare Dutch day-disc, two features that make this Day-Date a popular and much sought after Rolex watch, especially one like this with zero stretch to the yellow gold President bracelet, and a very sharp case and bezel (which we believe remain unpolished). The gold tapestry dial is the absolute eye-catcher here, it truly brings that extra bit of flair and uniqueness which will make you smile every time you glance at your wrist. Each vertical line which make up the Tapestry pattern is raised, but also consist of very small lines, all part of a concentric guilloche of the entire dial – When viewed up close this finish is truly astonishing. The combination of those large vertical, and small concentric lines in this particular dial colour, ensures that the Tapestry pattern truly comes to life on the wrist. You see, when the light hits this dial and pattern, it bends and plays with the color, making the dial seem gold at one point and a dark yellow the other. The Tritium inside the hands and at the end of the indices are all original and show an offwhite/eggshell tone, and therefor give a nice small contrast against all that beautiful gold. The indices are amongst my favorite with a raised center piece and small faceted top and bottom, these shine and sparkle just the right way when the sun hits this dial. The day and date disc are the original cream colored ones and show the original and wonderful heavy Serif fonts we love so much.
This 18238 Day-Date ‘Dutch Days’ was fully serviced by our watchmakers, but due to the unpolished nature we chose to keep the entire watch this way, we only did a soft cleaning by hand of the case and bracelet. However, should you desire a brand spanking “like New” look for this Day-Date we’d be more then happy to help you out, and will get the watch polished and brushed (free of charge of course). Don’t hesitate to schedule in your appointment, coffee is always on.
