1603 Swiss Only & Dagger Hands
The Rolex Datejust we’re offering here is a somewhat early model, with a serial number dating back to 1962. The rare and so-called, Dauphine or Dagger hands are still the original ones, and the champagne-colored “Swiss Only’ pie-pan dial boasts gorgeous hour markers. These so-called Fancy Markers are elevated, machined, and cut in such a way that they nearly resemble little works of art. The markers at positions six and nine for example, are double the width of the remaining markers and have a little split cut right down the middle, with a sharp downward angle that will nicely reflect the light.
Different on these older Datejust’s is the more wide spaced lettering on the dial. Apart from the wider spacing, the font on the original date-wheel is also different; these are larger and more block-like, with a ‘hooked 7′ numeral for example; It seems crazy or even excessive to mention this, but for the true enthusiast and collector, these are the details that really matter. After all, the devil is in the details. Note that there is a little line/scratch on the dial, between the center and the six o’clock position. Because of the studio lighting used during photography, this scratch is very noticeable in the photos above; however, on the wrist, not so much and will only be seen when turned into a certain angle. Just saying, as this early Datejust with Swiss Only dial and Dauphine hands, has a lot of vintage bang and is a watch you won’t see every day on your co-workers or friends’ wrists, or out in the wild for that matter. Therefor we chose to keep the dial as it is, with battle scars and all, which tells a bit of this watch’s story from the past 63 years of faithful duty. In conclusion, the dial colour varies from light champagne to extremely dark champagne when the dial is viewed from a sharp angle, it is truly fantastic and won’t get boring any time soon.
The watch is worn on a somewhat later 62510 solid Jubilee bracelet, but a wonderful leather strap from our WWH collection would also look great combined with that stunning champagne dial. This iconic and nowadays rare vintage Datejust has been fully serviced and will be available with our extensive 24-month warranty.
