1811 Day-Date “Morellis”

Our Rolex Day-Date with reference 1811 distinguishes itself from any other Day-Date out there by its exquisite finish on the bezel and on the center links of the President bracelet. This finish is called a ‘Morellis’ or ‘Moire’ finish and was hand applied by Rolex’s artisan’s back in the day. This groovy finish is not to be mistaken with the so-called ‘Bark’ finish – it might look the same at a glance, but it’s totally different once inspected up close. Not to mention these 1811’s are way more rare, manufactured for only a small period of time, they make an excellent buy for the avid Day-Date collector.

This 1811 Day-Date ‘Morellis’ is truly a watch seldom seen in the flesh, the overall condition of this particular 1811 is very good – She didn’t see much wrist time and when it was on the wrist, the previous owner took excellent care of it. The 46 year old President bracelet shows little wear or stretch and still looks very good. The case is nice and thick with four fat and even shaped lugs and the Morelis adorned bezel remains in perfect condition. The original factory diamond dial is set with ten diamonds in total – eight round ones and two baguette-cut diamonds for the six and nine marker. That golden pie-pan dial is in an overall nice condition with all Tritium dots accounted for, these dots are surrounded by some darker spots due to the aging of the Tritium, however are hardly visible with the naked eye or when the watch is worn. Please note that the gold hands were replaced by Rolex sometime in the 1990’s, these show a more whiter lume than that of the aforementioned dots.

This rare 1811 Day-Date ‘Morellis’ was fully serviced by our watchmakers, but we didn’t do too much to the vintage gold as this is showing a wonderful, more warm hue due to the higher levels of copper used on 18k yellow gold back in the day – She will be delivered with a WWH service rapport and our extensive 24 month warranty.
