ROLEX DATEJUST ‘JAPAN DIAL’

We’re happy to offer you guys another excellent vintage Datejust, this time it’s a beautiful specimen from 1971 with a rare, so called ‘Japan Dial’ This nickname was derived from the fact that in the late 1960’s to the early 1970’s the Japanese government banned the import of goods into the country with radio-active material in, or on them. For this reason, Rolex manufactured watch-dials and hands without the radioactive material Tritium, which of course was used by the brand for the luminescent characteristics of the dial and hands. Look close and you will notice that the hands are ‘closed’ without a line of luminescent material, the same applies to the dial – no luminescent dots at the end of the hour-markers.

The lack of any Tritium on the dial or in the hands make this a super fresh looking, vintage Datejust. The dial is nothing short of stunning! The heavy sunray lines in combination with those fat, white gold brushed indices and their subtle polished facets on the top and bottom, is out of this world. To top it of, this Datejust still has that wonderful, slightly slimmer serif font I personally love so much, you might not notice it the first time, but compare this font to an 80’s or ’90’s Datejust dial and you will see what I mean – It’s all about the details! The case on this Rolex Datejust ‘Japan Dial’ is nice and strong and the 18k white gold fluted bezel remains in a very good and sharp condition. This 1601 is worn on a 62510H Jubilee bracelet with 555 end-links and will be accompanied by a green Rolex service pouch.

This vintage Datejust with killer dial and all over excellent condition was of course again fully serviced and the watch will be sold with a 12 month warranty.
